EBN News: Operation Scarecrow20 Apr 2005
Today, Randolph Vemlick, a spokesperson for RDI (Research and Development Institute), announced the commencement of Operation Scarecrow. His statement follows: “To all responsible and competent citizens of Calypso: There is a need for brave robot hunters to search and retrieve material for research purposes. A couple of months ago the pattern of robot activity on Calypso has changed. Calypsonian authorities state that the large scale attacks upon the cities have ceased. Since then, only scattered robot activity with the odd large concentration have been reported. A colonial investigation team was dispatched to known areas of robot activity to search for additional clues to explain this decrease in activity. The evidence uncovered by this expedition was found to be of great importance. RDI believes it indicates that the robots are greatly advancing in their development. This theory has led to a flurry of intense activity within RDI. Unfortunately, the few robot parts salvaged by the expedition have only rendered more questions than answers. Additionally, Calyponian authorities have also been speculating over the meaning of this change. Could it be the lull before the storm or is it just another example of normal robot evolution? To help obtain more conclusive evidence; RDI, in conjunction with the Calyponian authorities, is sponsoring a grand search entitled 'Operation Scarecrow'. The scientists at RDI are interested in a few specialized robot parts and are offering a reward for their acquisition. Please refer to the table, below, for a list which items are of interest to RDI and the reward being offered for each type. To help facilitate this effort; an RDI clerk, Trob Tedser, will be available in Atlas Haven near the teleporter. Please refer to the schedule, below, for his availability. To collect the reward, one only needs to initiate a trade with Mr. Tedser. Give him the requested items and the corresponding rewards will be immediately delivered." EBN News Update: Operation Scarecrow23 Apr 2005
The Calypso authorities are pleased to inform that the robot aggressors have been given a hard blow in their advance towards humankind. Dedicated and determined colonists have struck down a lot of robot activity. Crippling their presences at some locations. “The threat remains though, as the machines are yet to teleport in massive numbers to counter the destruction we have caused” Federal Marshal Ragnor LoKrosse says to EBN. Meanwhile, the RDI is very keen on locating the artefacts needed for examination. The surveillance data received shows several concentrations of robot activity, especially in the remote areas of Amethera and in the Eudora outbacks. RDI is hoping this will bring forth the items needed, to be able to create an effective counter-measure to the ongoing machine attacks.
RDI informs: Operation Scarecrow25 Apr 2005
The noble efforts on the behalf of the intrepid hunters have paid off and the RDI is very pleased with the outcome. The latest feedback from the labs is that the quantities of robot artefacts are still too low to make a breakthrough, so RDI urges the Calypsonians to continue their conquest of the machines, in order to recover more items.
RDI deems Operation Scarecrow a great success02 May 2005
RDI clerk Trob Tedser has issued a statement about the robot artifact hunt. He says: "It is with great joy and respect for the bold hunters I can say that RDI managed to retrieve several hundred artifacts. We at RDI will be busy using the robot technology to create new items that will further aid the Calypso colonists struggle to overcome the constant robot onslaught." On the question whether RDI is forming a presence on Calypso soil, Tedser explains: "RDI is currently negotiating with the Federal Empire to allow for a local research facility on Calypso. That would bring a better turn-around both in regards to research and practical tests. Things are looking positive at the moment, but a final decisions is not yet in."
